Playboy comes to USC
Playboy came to USC’s University Park campus on Thursday, and the turnout for the magazine’s “Girls of the Pac-10” auditions wasn’t what it had anticipated.
“We didn’t expect it be as low as it was,” said Eden Orfanos, a Playboy representative. “We thought more girls would be interested, we thought more candidates would show.”
Coming into Thursday, ten girls had signed up for the USC audition, and that was already much lower than other Pac-10 schools. Orfanos said she expects “about 40 girls” to show up in Washington and 60 girls have already signed up at Arizona. UCLA had 25 girls audition.
What compounded the low turnout were two girls canceling on the day of the auditions and two others not even showing up.
“It’s typical, they have cold feet, they don’t show up,” Orfanos said.
One USC student who did show up said it was an exciting opportunity.
“I think it takes a lot of self-confidence, you have to be happy, you have to be carefree,” she said. "When I first heard of it, I really wanted to do it."
Orfanos and other representatives of the magazine sought to recruit more USC women at The Lab and the 901 bar on Wednesday night. The second day of the USC casting call is Friday, April 9.
Despite the low turnout so far, Orfanos is happy with how everything ended up.
“Two girls are definitely workable, the pictures will be a success,” Orfanos said.
“We’re happy," she added. "USC will be represented well. We’re happy about that.”
