Student injured after six-floor fall from dorm
A male student is in critical condition after falling six stories from Birnkrant Residence Hall early Monday, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Multiple sources close to the student have confirmed that it is Jackson Roddy, a freshman accounting major.
LAPD and LAFD paramedics responded to a call at the scene at about 6 a.m.
A witness said he saw Roddy take two steps and jump.
Birnkrant is an eight story dormitory that houses about 500 freshman and sophomores.
Roddy is being treated at the California Hospital. Katreena Salgado, California Hospital Directory of Public Affairs, says they cannot comment until they get permission from the family.
Roddy was pledging Sigma Nu fraternity, according to Sigma Nu President Brian Huefner.
"As of now, we are just trying to support the family and support each other," said Heufner.
Vice President for Student Affairs Michael Jackson released a statement confirming that the investigation is now being handled by LAPD, but LAPD could not comment.
Jackson also said that USC is trying to help those who know Roddy.
"USC Student Affairs is reaching out to the family and students who have been affected by this incident, offering counseling to anyone who desires," wrote Jackson.
In response to the incident, USC Housing sent an e-mail to Birnkrant students informing them that all window locks will be checked immediately.
USC Student Affairs is offering counseling to anyone. Four counselors are available to students at Birnkrant. Anyone who needs assistance is urged to contact Student Affairs at 213-740-2421 or the USC Center for Work and Family Life at 213-821-0800.
