Developer Rick Caruso Resigns from Coliseum Commission
Developer Rick Caruso has resigned from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission Wednesday after receiving critism for his role at USC.
In a resignation letter Caruso said he was stepping down as a panel member in the commission after receiving criticism for his roles as a trustee for USC. Caruso said this might have "restricted" his ability to serve on the comission effectively, The Los Angels Times reported.
USC's football team plays at the Coliseum and is its main tenant.
USC is reportedly wanting more control over the Coliseum.
Caruso also said he disagreed with the commission panel's decision to approve rave concerts at the Coliseum. He also demanded the removal of former General Manager Patrick Lynch becuase of Lynch's alleged financial improprieties earlier this year.
Caruso was appointed to the comission by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008. Caruso has also been rumored to be considering a run for mayor in 2012.
Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard C. Parks, who is part of the commission and whose council district includes the Coliseum, opposed a "master lease" for USC. He has also said the private school should not have such authority over the publicly owned stadium.
