Small Quake Hits Newport Coast

The earthquake was felt as far as Burbank.

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck the Orange County coast this morning.

The earthquake hit at 2:46a.m. with an epicenter four miles east of Newport Beach.

Facebook user Dawn S. Theodora, whose home was at the epicenter, said she felt a "BIG jolt."

According to responses on the U.S Geological Survey website it was felt as far north as Burbank and as far south as the northern edges of San Diego.

There were no reported damages.

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was also reported Wednesday morning in Yucaipa, CA.

Thomas Jordan, Professor of geophysics at the University of Southern California, said these earthquakes are not representative of a big earthquake and that the two earthquakes are not related as they lie on different faults.
