Apple Unveils iPhone 4S
The new model, debuted at a news conference in Cupertino Tuesday, has an improved camera with a higher-resolution sensor and a faster processor. New mobile software allows the phone to sync wirelessly with computers and respond to spoken commands and questions.
It is also a "worldphone" that allows Verizon Wireless customers to use it overseas, just as AT&T customers already could. Another big change is that Sprint will carry the new iPhone in addition to Verizon and AT&T.
The iPhone 4S will come in black and white. It will cost $199 for 16 gigabytes, $299 for 32 gigabytes and $399 for 64 gigabytes, all with a two-year service contract. The now-dated iPhone 4 will cost $99 for eight gigabytes and the 3GS is free, both with two-year contracts.
In spite of the iPhone's overwhelming popularity, the smartphone only accounts for five percent of the worldwide handset market.
