MLB: McCourt Took $189 Million From Dodgers
Major League Baseball has alleged that Dodgers owner Frank McCourt took $189.16 million from the team. The MLB is also claiming that the Bryan Stow incident is a specific example of McCourt's mismanagement of the stadium.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Gross has ruled that Dodger Stadium security is a valid issue in the Dodgers' bankruptcy proceedings.
The Dodger's countered by stating that the League is "fabricating the public misimpression that security at Dodger Stadium was somehow inadequate."
However, in a previous filing, the Dodgers said that 197 police officers were on duty the day Stow was attacked. McCourt was the first Dodgers owner to hire uniformed LAPD officers.
The League has also alleged that there have been deficiencies in the lighting of Dodger parking lots and "the ease of unauthorized access to the stadium."
They have accused McCourt of breaking 10 MLB rules, any of which could lead to an abrupt end to his franchise. Most notably, they say he "siphoned" team revenue for non-baseball use. This includes having used money to pay off personal debts exceeding $61 million.
Another point of contention is the Dodgers' contract with FOX. Currently, FOX has been paying for exclusive broadcasting rights to Dodger games. The revenue generated from this deal is how the Dodgers are currently making most of their profits.
However, back in June, the League denied a new proposed deal between the Dodgers and FOX as a consequence of the rules they allege that McCourt has broken.
