Obama's L.A. Agenda: Leno, Beverly Hills and Chicken 'N Waffles

Obama's final day in Los Angeles fell nothing short of exciting.

[UPDATE | 12:46 p.m.: President Barack Obama has left Los Angeles and is headed for San Francisco.]

After spending the night in Los Angeles, Obama spent Tuesday morning taping an appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." This is Obama's second "Tonight Show" appearance, having previously appeared in March of 2009.

His trip to the City of Angels was part of a two-day campaign trip. Obama has said that the 2012 elections will be much more difficult and nowhere near as "sexy" as the 2008 race.

Of course, when Obama comes to town traffic is expected, especially as he traveled Tuesday morning, in rush hour traffic, from his Beverly Hills hotel to the NBC Studio Burbank. Drivers Monday hit traffic on Sunset Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, Pico Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard as Obama's motorcade traveled through the L.A. area.

One of the highlights of his visit consisted of a fundraiser at the Hancock Park home of movie producer James Lassiter and his wife, Mia. Supporters paid $35,800 each in order to attend the event. Will Smith, who starred in Lassiter's film "Hitch," was one of the event's co-hosts.

Obama discussed the mortgage refinance program he announced Monday in Las Vegas, which would enable homeowners to refinance at lower rates.

He then went to the nearby home of Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith for a fundraiser organized by Futuro Fund, which consists of Latino Obama supporters. In addressing the approximately 200 people in attendance, many of whom paying more than $5,000 a head, Obama listed off what he has accomplished thus far but acknowledged that, "We've got much work to do."

Earlier Monday, Obama stopped by Roscoe's House of Chicken 'N Waffles. Restaurant manager David Daviston told KCAL9 that when Obama walked through the door, everyone was yelling "four more years."

This is Obama's eighth visit to the Los Angeles area since being elected President. The President is predicted to raise $1 million in L.A. before flying out of LAX to conclude his West Coast tour in San Francisco.

COMMENTS

The White House wants you to see President Obama bash the rich, and everyone in the press corps is invited to cover the various rallies and speeches where he claims average people can’t get a break and the wealthy aren’t paying their fair share of taxes.

What the White House doesn’t want you to see is Obama schmoozing the rich so that he can pocket some of their money for his campaign.

Nothing could be more ostentatious than a Los Angeles fundraiser, replete with movie stars, athletes, and cinema moguls who embody the very exclusivity and bejeweled abundance Obama is not supposed to be about.

So not surprisingly, news photographers were barred from both of Obama’s L.A. fundraisers Monday. The best the public could do was get bare-bones written descriptions of the events that give only a hint of the lavishness that surrounded the president.
