Students Protest "Occupy USC" [Updated]

Students rallied on campus at Tommy Trojan Monday as part of Occupy USC.

USC's College Democrats started the rally at noon, including some students who have attended an Occupy LA rally.

"We're not socialists, this isn't classs warfare, we're not Anti-American. We're in the process of democracy and this is how it works," Ximena Velasquez, USC College Democrats President said.

Occupy USC's facebook page calls students to help them "fight for justice" and stand in solidarity with people around the world who are tired of the greed and costly actions of Wall Street and large banks and companies that make up the 1 percent.

Some people, like USC student Vince Jouvin, do not support the Occupy movement since they say it lacks focus.

"I personally am not in favor of the movement, but that's only because of their lack of a central message and also their lack of strength of a goal...because occupy everywhere isn't going to accomplish anything," Jouvin said.

The first attempt to bring Occupy Wall Street to USC was Alex Zelenty's vigil on Oct 3.  Zelenty told Neon Tommy, “I’m not telling people to come here, but if people, any friends or anyone decides that they think that it’s right then anyone’s welcome.”

Today, students have decided the time is right to stand up for the cause.

"If the people are unhappy, it is the politicians' responsibility to react and create policies," Velasquez said.
