LA Taxpayers Owed $7M in Tax Refunds

The IRS said a total of 99,123 checks were not delivered.

The Internal Revenue Service announced Thursday it has $153 million in undelievered tax refunds.

The agency said a total of 99,123 checks were not delivered and the average amount of the returned checks was $1,547.

As many as 4,000 Los Angeles residents are owed tax refunds totaling $7 million.

The IRS urged taxpayers to select the option of receiving their refunds through direct deposits electronically to their bank accounts rather than requesting refund checks by mail.

Out of the nearly 103 million refunds the IRS issued through early June this year, 76 million were direct deposits.

Taxpayers who have been expecting a tax refund, but have not yet received a check by mail can go to the IRS website and click on the "Check on Your Refund" or call 1-800-829-1954.
