Gas Prices in L.A. Approach $5 Mark

Some gas stations still sell gas for under $4.

Gasoline prices in Los Angeles County reached their highest level Tuesday since June 2011, although savvy shoppers may be able to find deals if they search hard enough.

The highest prices are found at the Shell gas station on West Olympic Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Mid-Wilshire, where a gallon of regular gas costs $4.93 and premium costs $5.07.

Other gas stations, such as the Mobil gas station on South Hacienda Boulevard and Gate Avenue in Hacienda Heights went as high as $4.87 for regular gas and $4.99 for premium.

The lowest gas prices recorded in Los Angeles are at the Valero on East Manchester Avenue and San Pedro Street in Florence, where regular costs $3.81 and premium ran $4.01.

According to AAA, minimizing braking, avoiding quick start and stops, keeping tires inflated and slowing down are all ways of conserving gasoline and avoiding paying the newly minted prices too often.
