A Theodore High School teacher was released on bail Thursday after being arrested on suspicion of having sex with two former students.

Gabriela Cortez, 42, was arrested and booked Wednesday for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, according to Montebello police. She was released on $140,000 bail.

Cortez teaches in Boyle Heights but was arrested in Montebello where she resides.

According to Montebello police, the investigation began on Feb. 15 after a former student claimed he had a sexual relationship with his teacher while he was a minor. The alleged victim told police he wanted to get things "off his chest."

A second man came forth and said he had a sexual relationship with the suspect when he was a student. The man provided information regarding their relationship.

Cortez will return to court on March 22. Anyone with information is urged to contact Montebello Police Detective Andrade at (323) 887-1255.
