South LA Teacher's Aide to Be Arraigned

A teacher's aide at John C. Fremont Senior High School has been charged with four felony sex-related counts.

[UPDATE | 11:30 a.m., Feb. 15: A former Fremont teacher's aide has been charged Wednesday with four felony sex-related counts for allegedly contacting a 15-year-old student with the intention to commit a sexual offense.

Alain Salas, 40, is scheduled to be arraigned at the Compton Superior Court.  He is charged with three counts of committing a lewd act on a child and one count of contact with a minor for a sexual offense.

Salas, a teacher's assistant and coach, worked at Fremont High School in South Los Angeles since 2006. He was a teacher's aide for special education students as well as an assistant coach for the girls' softball and girls' volleyball teams.

Investigators believe Salas made contact with a student both in person and on the Internet, but this has yet to be confirmed.

"We've had a continuing investigation that Mr. Salas had contact with 15-year-old female at the school. The allegations are physcial contact with a child at the school. It's sexual-related contact," FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

Salas was arrested by the FBI on Monday.  His arrest marks the third arrest at a South L.A. school within a few weeks. Fremont High School is two miles away from Miramonte Elementary, where two teachers have been charged with committing sex crimes with children.
