"Strut For Love" Campaign for Heart Disease Awareness

The American Red Cross and Macy's brings together men and women for "Strut for Love" campaign.

"National Go Red for Women Day" made red heels into a classy cause to spread awareness about heart disease.

On Thursday, the American Red Cross and Macy's organized the "Strut for Love" campaign, as dozens of women and several men wearing red stilletos gathered at the Beverley Center.

"In the U.S., 1/3 of women will die of heart disease. That statistic is staggering and I don't know how many of us don't know that. That is the whole goal of events like this. We must make them aware and make them know their numbers," Vyshali Rao from the California Heart Medical Group said.

About 25% of deaths in the U.S. is due to heart disease, and early detection can save lives.

Hillary Gushwa shared her struggle with heart disease: "When I was 16 I was finally diagnosed, I should have been dead by now. I was fortunate to have it detected. My last surgery in August I found out that I also have a hole in my heart. These two are battling with one another and the only thing that keeps me going is being positive."

Dr. Sheila Kar, MD. Clinical Chief of Cardiology and President of Sheila Kar Foundation, stressed the importance of a nutritious, balanced diet and exercise to reduce the risks of heart disease.

Macy's is hoping to raise one million dollars more than last year by selling "Go Red" ribbons.

This special event brings hope to many women and their families struggling with heart disease.
