Fresh and Easy 'Swap Meat'
The supermarket Fresh and Easy will allow people to trade in ground beef Wednesday from any store for beef from Fresh and Easy.
The move is in reaction to the recent public outrage against a beef additive called “pink slime.” People are encouraged to bring in fresh or frozen ground beef—with or without the additive-- from any store and can swap it for up to 2lbs of beef.
The supermarket is also urging people to use Facebook and Twitter to share their experiences and use the hashtag #SwapMeat.
Fresh and Easy claims it has never sold beef that contains the ammonia-treated filler added to some beef products.
On Monday, Beef Products Inc., the company that makes the beef additive, closed operations on all but one of its plants where the ingredients are made.
