Stolen Luxury Cars Seized At Port
Twenty seized luxury cars valued at over $1.5 million were displayed at a warehouse in Carson on Tuesday.
Custom and Border Protection’s Outbound Enforcement Team seized a high priced shipment at Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex on route to Vietnam and Hong Kong, which led to the discovery of other stolen car shipments from a crime ring.
The shipment had been classified as used fitness equipment, but instead contained a 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia, valued around $225,000.
A Hollywood car rental agency raised concern when the car’s GPS reported it being parked at the port for two entire days.
Police investigated and found the car, then investigated further by looking up the names and addresses of the shipping container in databases, revealing 10 other containers with similar addresses.
Those addresses held the rest of the 20 luxury cars and SUVS, ranging across BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti, and Lexus.
Officials believe the cars were rented or leased under fake names, with some being purchased on credit and quickly exported.
No arrests have been made yet, and the cars will be returned to the dealerships and rental agencies they were stolen from.
None of the keys to any of the cars were discovered.
