Metro Offers Free Fare For New Expo Line Opening
Metro is offering free fare to generate awareness of the newly unveiled Expo line.
The line's opening weekend will allow free rides from downtown to near Culver City. Officials stated the line will open to all on April 28 with a limited 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. schedule on opening weekend.
All other metro services, such as buses and trains, will operate at regular fare.
After opening weekend, the line is expected to serve 27,000 daily passengers and will run seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 12:30p.m.
There is a station in Culver City that will serve as the end of the line. However, it will not be part of the initial opening weekend route, as there is still construction underway. By 2015 officials expect the line to extend to Santa Monica.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who is also on the MTA Board of Directors, has deemed the opening as "a critical step towards creating the multi- faceted transit network that Angelenos deserve.''
Villaraigosa also said that the people of Los Angeles are willing to make the changes they want to see, and commended them for it
"When Angelenos rallied together to pass Measure R, voters sent the message loud and clear that we want transit options beyond the single-passenger automobile,'' Villaraigosa said last month. "Los Angeles has been leading the way to improve and expand our infrastructure and support jobs.''
Starting Monday, fare will return to normal at $1.50 for one-way or $5 for a Metro Day Pass. Regular Metro monthly passes remain $75 and are good for unlimited travel on all Metro buses and trains.
The new Expo line will feature the following stops:
- Seventh and Figueroa streets (shared with Blue Line)
- Pico Boulevard and Flower Street (shared with Blue Line)
- 23rd and Flower streets
- Jefferson Boulevard and Flower Street
- Figueroa Street and Exposition Boulevard
- Vermont Avenue and Exposition Boulevard
- Western Avenue and Exposition Boulevard
- Crenshaw and Exposition boulevards
- La Brea Avenue and Exposition Boulevard
- La Cienega and Jefferson Boulevards.
On opening day, can to take the train at LaCienega and Jefferson going South to Staples Center and what would be the stop (pico and Flower) How often does the train leave LaCienga station.
