Teacher Fired for Appearing in Porn Video
An Oxnard school teacher was formally fired Wednesday night after she had been put on leave for her performance in a pornographic video, according to Oxnard School District officials.
Stacie Halas taught seventh and eighth graders at Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School since 2009. She was accused of appearing in a pornographic video before she became a teacher.
Her age has not been disclosed.
According to Oxnard School District board of trustees president Veronica Robles-Solis, the trustees unanimously voted to dismiss Halas.
She had been on paid administrative leave since news of her appearance in the video surfaced last month.
"We're dealing with the disruption that we believe it would cause our district, and the schools in our district, if she were to return back to the classroom," Superintendent Jeff Chancer said.
Students had claimed that Halas was moonlighting as a porn star, but their claims were initially dismissed after school officials said they couldn't find any pictures of her on the internet.
The investigation was quickly restarted after other teachers showed the administrators downloads from their smart phones, and they realized that the school computer system had blocked access to the sex sites.
In a letter to all three of its junior high schools, the district has asked students not to search the internet for the teacher's image.
"I saw parts of the video," Chancer said. "It's hardcore pornography."
Halas has 30 days to appeal the board of trustee's decision, according to the Ventura County Star. She will have to request an administrative law judge hearing.
Halas could not be reached for comment, and the teacher's union has declined to comment on the situation.
