With Hurricane Sandy rapidly closing in on southern New Jersey, millions of Americans in eastern United States are bracing for the worst. Residents nationwide, however, are also feeling the hurricane's wrath.

"We left New Zealand this morning, left Oakland into LA, supposed to have a connecting flight but due to the storm we are delayed here and we can't get another flight to New York until Thursday," Lynn Bridgeman said.

More than 14,000 flights have been canceled across the country because of the hurricane, and 129 flights have been canceled thus far to fly in or out of Los Angeles International Airport or Bob Hope Airport. You can find out more about flight delays on the FAA website

"We're going to do the marathon. Probably the only time I'll get to New York for nine days and now we've lost half of it."

Many airlines are offering to re-book travel for people affected by the storm cancellations.
"Customers scheduled to travel Oct. 28 through Oct. 31 on American Airlines flights to, from or through the [affected airports] may change flights without penalty, have the ticket-reissue charge waived for one ticket change, and begin travel as late as Nov. 7," American Airlines said in a statement.
