Inglewood Devastated by Neighborhood Shooting
Two local city police departments came together to collect donations for the family of Filimon Lamas and his four year old son, Giovanni. Both were killed Saturday when a gunman opened fire at their Inglewood home.
Liutennent James Maria, from the Inglewood Police Department, said that now is the time for the two police departments to come together to help the family in a time of need.
Residents were surprised that the shooting happened in their neighborhood.
This neighborhood is kind of quiet," resident Olga Hidalgo explained. "It's not really like 'Inglewood'."
Gloria Jimenzez survived the attack. Her sister, Carolina, described her sister's strength.
"We did not deserve to be hurt in such a manner," Carolina Jimenez said. We are all devastated but forced to be strong because it's our only option."
The body of the suspected shooter, Desmond John Moses was believed to have been found in the burned ruins of his home. Police say Moses was a neighbor of the family and was facing eviction. The Jimenez/Lamas family says they will continue to rely on support from the community.
"It's my duty to remain strong, but sometimes life hits you beyond hard," said Jaime Jimenez, the brother of Gloria. In the name of Gloria Jimenez and Filimon Lamas I want to thank the community for their positive response... Fili, Gio, rest in peace."
Donations can be made at any local Wells Fargo branch or by calling the Hawthorne Wells Fargo Branch at (310) 973-6279 and referencing the Jimenez Lamas Donation Fund.
Is the Wells Fargo account still open, can we still donate to that account number?
