Seven young women were chosen as members of the 2013 Tournament of Roses Royal Court Monday morning.

As part of their reign, the members of the Royal Court will attend over 150 public functions in the San Gabriel Valley over the next few months.  Their schedule of appearances will culminate at the 99th Rose Bowl Game and the 124th Rose Parade on New Year's Day.

The seven members of the 2013 court are:

  • Kathryne Benuska, Marantha High School
  • Tracy Cresta, La Salle High School
  • Vanessa Manjarrez, Mayfield Senior School
  • Victoria McGregor, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
  • Nicole Nelam, Pasadena High School
  • Sonia Shenoi, San Marino High School
  • Madison Teodo, La Canada High School

Over 900 teenagers from the Pasadena area applied for a spot on the court.  An interview process narrowed those initial applicants down to 33, and then to seven.

"Among the many outstanding applicants this year, these seven really rose to the top," said Joan Madsen, the chair of the Queen and Court Committee.  "We know they will be terrific role models and handle the numerous commitments with poise and grace."

One of the seven will be chosen as Rose Queen on October 16.  The queen and court selections are based on poise, personality, public speaking ability and scholastic achievement, according to the tournament website.
