The trial for the man suspected of attempted murder of two USC students has been postponed until Oct. 22.

Police suspect that Tyson Tyree Smith fired at two USC students at a W. 37th Pl. apartment party Sept. 4, 2011 after a resident confronted him about a missing pair of Dr. Dre Beats headphones.

LAPD Capt. Melissa Zak said the party was supposed to be invite-only and Smith was not invited.

Two of the resident's friends, a male undergraduate USC student and a female graduate student, stepped in to defend the resident when the suspect started shooting.

Both students were injured and later transported to California Hospital. The female victim underwent surgery and the male victim recovered in the intensive care unit.

LAPD worked with DPS and Signal Hill Police Department to successfully find the suspect.

According to LAPD media relations, photographs, video and digital evidence were taken at the party. Police used this evidence to identify the suspect.

Smith remains in jail on $3 million bail.
