URSC Advocacy Board Petitions for the Return of the LA Live Shuttle

Many students would use the shuttle to LA Live if it was reinstated.

The University Residential Student Community Advocacy Board is petitioning LA Live owner AEG to reinstate the shuttle from campus to LA Live.

They created a survey for USC students to prove that they would use the free shuttle if it were reinstated.

"We want the regular shuttle back because transportation is very unsafe," said Michelle Dong who conducted a survey that found more than 90 percent of students would use the shuttle.

AEG declined to comment but a representative from USC Transportation believes AEG cancelled the service because students already have options like the Dash and Expo Line that opened this year.

"AEG had trouble with the budget and with the Expo Line opening it was one of those things where their resources were better suited elsewhere," Michelle Garcia, the Associate Director of Transit, said.

The shuttle used to average about 850 people a weekend on Friday and Saturday nights. The shuttle ran from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Garcia said the Expo Line stops running around 1 a.m. so it might not be as convenient for students.

She pointed out that Yellow Cab takes USC cards as a form of payment for those looking to easily get to L.A. Live.

"USC Transportation would be willing to provide the service but the budget doesn't support it," Garcia said. "If the funding came from another department we would be happy to use the vehicle, we just need the financial backing to supply the service."
