All California residents interested in voting in November's presidential General Election must be registered to vote by the state's Oct. 22 deadline.

U.S. citizens who have recently moved or changed their name, as well as those who have never voted before, would need to register by midnight on this date.

Los Angeles County residents can register to vote or check their registration status online at lavote.net.

This is the first year that Californians can register to vote online.  The web system verifies voters' identities and signatures through the California Department of Motor Vehicles.  If the DMV is unable to confirm a voter's identity electronically, he or she must print, fill out and mail a paper voter registration form to their county election office.

Interested voters can also pick up registration forms at public libraries, DMVs, U.S. Post Offices and other public areas.

The upcoming election will take place on Nov. 6.
