False Alarm, Rapid Response in USC Shooting Alert
At 5:18 p.m., the Trojans Alert system notified students, faculty, staff and other members of the USC community that a shooting had occurred at 5:05 p.m.
The alert said the shooting took place near the intersection of Exposition Blvd and Menlo Ave and that the suspects were at-large, in a white Toyota truck with a camper shell occupied by 3 Hispanic males.
Less than 10 minutes later, a second Trojans Alert retracted the warning, explaining, "The shooting reported in the area of Exposition Park & Menlo Ave has been investigated and was determined to be unfounded."
Reports of what prompted USC's DPS to issue the warnings are still being determined.
Captain David Carlisle said of the rapid response by the university's Department of Public Safety comes on the heels of the Oct. 31 shooting outside the Tutor Campus Center.
"It's better to be safe than sorry," said Carlisle.
