A new television network is coming to cable television, but before your mind jumps to reality shows and sitcoms, think again.  The network is DOGTV and as the name suggests it is a television station geared entirely for dogs.

“It’s background ambient noise that’s good for them and it might even entertain and relax them while we’re doing it,” said Beke Lubeach, DOGTV marketing director.

The programming is comprehensive to suit a dogs every mood.  It has videos to relax them, stimulate their minds and expose them to outside surroundings they may not be used to.

Dogs with a lot of anxiety may not sleep or have a hard time relaxing and this will help them,” said Lubeach.

The programming is in a test market in San Diego and can be streamed online, the company is preparing for a nationwide launch at the beginning of the year.  Before you sign your dog up, one veterinarian is not too sure of the benefits of DOGTV.

“I think we translated what might be comfortable for human behavior and saying these sounds are soothing,” said Dr. Billy Richardson.
