Over 12,000 Tickets Issued for Violations on New Toll Roads
Since the express lanes on the 110 Freeway were converted into Fast Trak lanes on Nov. 10, 12,297 tickets have been issued to drivers, officials said Thursday.
Anyone driving in the Fast Trak lane must have a transponder on their windshield, regardless of whether they are carpooling. The transponder costs $40, but drivers must purchase the device if they want to drive in the new toll roads.
Metro is now giving drivers a break and will only charge first time offenders a solo driver fee of $1.50. But after the first month is over for the new toll roads, fines will start up.
Here's a breakdown of the possible fees:
- Carpoolers or motorcycles with no transponders: $25
- Single-rider with no transponder: $154
- Single riders who fake carpooling: Up to #401
