USC Once Again Tops Foreign Enrollment

A new study reports that USC has the most international students in the nation.

USC has the most international students out of any U.S. college or university for the 11th year in a row, according to the Open Doors Report published Monday.

The report, published annually by the Institute of International Education, found that USC hosted 9,269 international students during the 2011-12 academic school year. This is about a seven percent increase from the year before.

In a statement from the university, President C.L. Max Nikias expressed his gratification for such a diverse student body.

“USC is so proud of its exceptional international students, as well as its ability to continually draw such talented students from all over the world,” he said. “They benefit enormously from their time at USC, while our domestic students learn about cultures outside of their own.”

The statement also said that Chinese and Indian students make up the two largest portions of the university’s international-student body. There are 2,515 Chinese students enrolled and 1,265 Indian students.

The Open Doors study also found that international students are at a record high of 764,495, a six percent increase from the previous report.

“International education creates a positive economic and social impact for communities in the United States and around the world,” the Institute said in a press release.

The study also reported on students studying abroad. USC ranked sixth for total number of students who partook in an abroad program during the 2010-11 school year with 2,340 students.

What percentage of the USC student population does 9,269 students represent? Thanks.
