Walmart Employees Protest Working on Thanksgiving
Employees from local stores protested outside of the Pico-Rivera Walmart Tuesday, demanding higher pay and vacation on Black Friday.
Protesters began to take action when Walmart announced that they will be opening their doors to customers late on Thanksgiving day for Black Friday.
"This is our right, I am afraid to lose my job," said one Walmart employee, "but I have a right to protest and that's what I have to do."
During their protest, Walmart employees received food bags, preparing for a walkout planned on Black Friday.
Not everyone was supportive of the workers' protests. One woman said they are lucky to even have a job.
"I can't believe they are protesting in a time when so many people don't have jobs," said one Walmart customer.
Walmart spokesman, Dan Fogelman responded to the controversy in a statement.
"Most of the people taking part in these events aren't even Walmart workers," said Fogelman.
"They are union representatives and union workers who work for other companies," said Fogelman.
Great reporting, straight to the point and showing both sides of the coin!
You never know what is happening with the people until they speak out. However the way the economy it may be a good time to remember what you are thankful about especially having some money coming in via the job.
