Group Protests Expansion for Women's Jails
The "No More Jails Coalition" protested against Los Angeles County's plan to expand jails for women Tuesday morning outside the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration.
People involved with the group said they do not support jail expansions because they think they will unfairly impact minorities.
Protestors at the scene carried signs and sang chants that called for alternatives to jail expansion.
The state has already budgeted $124 million for jail realignment funding.
The "No More Jails Coalition" is focused on convincing the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to use the money for drug treatment, housing, education and job training.
The board of supervisors chose not to put the measure on the ballot this week. They will reevaluate the item and may put it back on the ballot as early as next week.
