Program Board Squares Off Against USG
“We believe in order for students to succeed academically, they need to be fit emotionally as well as physically,” said
Campus Affairs Director Wiley Strahan.
Junior Justin Bogda and Senator Sona Shah are promoting a "Green Student Assembly" to help USC becoming more environmentally stable. They are teaming up with Program Board and Office of Sustainability for the project. One of their goals is to support all the environment organizations on campus, like USC Energy Club and Earthly Creations.
The night's main event was the beginning of the “great debate” between the Senate and the Program Board. President Mikey Geragos and Vice President Vinnie Prasad proposed amending a bylaw that will truly “unify” USG.
“One of our big goals is unity,” Prasad said before expressing his concern with the bylaw requiring board members to have a confidence vote on the student elected program directors.
However, the Program Board completely disagrees with this amendment, with one member saying, “The only people that really understand it are the programmers themselves. It is not every day that they interact with the Senate for them to know specifically about programming. The Senate doesn’t know specifically about the treasurer. They don’t know the exact the ins and outs.”
The Senate will vote on the approval of the amendment next week, unless the proposal is tabled.
