Boston College Final Marathon Walk Postponed, to Hold Vigil
The walk organized by Boston College students to finish the Boston Marathon is postponded, due to officials' concern that the logistics will overwhelm Boston police.
The "Last 5" was originally scheduled at 4:30pm on Friday but organizers decided to postpone the event after meeting with the university officials.
Instead, students will gather for a vigil in front of the library on the Jesuit university's campus in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Dani Cole and Michael Padulsky, students at Boston College, created the Facebook event "Boston Marathon: The Last 5" that invited participants to finish the last five miles from the college campus to the finish line.
The event was billed as a way to support those who were injured, killed, or not able to finish the Boston Marathon because of the bombings.
The university's campus is located along the marathon route, near mile 21 of the 26.2 mile course.
More than 17,000 people indicated that they would attend after the event was posted Monday night.
Meanwhile, runners across the southland are organizing or have held runs in support of the Boston Marathon victims.
