Campus Fire Sparked by Overheated Equipment
Overheated equipment on the fourth floor of USC's Vivian Hall started a fire Tuesday morning.
Captain David Carlisle, the Public Information Officer for USC's Department of Public Safety, said that "excessive heat and smoke" activated sprinklers in the building.
Sprinklers held the fire until the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived, extinguishing the fire within 10 minutes.
According to the LAFD's twitter, "USC staff coordinated a calm and orderly" evacuation of the eight-story building.
No injuries were reported, but the incident is under investigation.
The building is closed until further notice as LAFD cleans up the scene.
