Greuel Garners More Support

Los Angeles Mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel picked up a key endorsement on Monday.

Los Angeles mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel picked up a key endorsement on Monday.

Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, an influential leader among African American voters, announced her endorsement for Greuel at a conference downtown.

This endorsement was announced in the midst of other endorsements that Greuel and her opponent, Eric Garcetti, have been receiving. In the past few weeks, Greuel has been endorsed by former President Bill Clinton, basketball player Magic Johnson, L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and Bishop Charles E. Blake of West Angeles.

Congresswoman Waters shared Monday that it is the type of support that Greuel has received that proves how qualified she is.

"You will find that she has a broad spectrum of support," Waters said.

The congresswoman also noted that Greuel has obtained the most endorsements by Bishops and religous leaders, and is the first mayoral candidate to have the support of both business and labor unions.

While Waters is seen as an influential African American leader, she spent most of her endorsement announcement speaking about how Greuel is a champion for women's rights, children, and even the homeless.

In response to the announcement Wendy Greuel said, "to have the congresswoman's endorsement means the world to me."

Garcetti also received an endorsement this weekend from three black city council members, City Council President Herb Wesson, Council Member Jan Perry and Council Member Bernard C. Parks. Garcetti also has been endorsed by celebrities like Will Ferrell and Jimmy Kimmel.

Garcetti and Greuel, both Democratic candidates, will continue to campaign until the runoff vote on May 21.
