USC Goes Green for Earth Week

USC will  hold several events to raise awareness during Earth Week.

USC is thinking green this week in observation of Monday's Earth Day, the annual national holiday meant to raise environmental awareness.

USC kicked off its Earth Week with several events Monday including an Environment Fair was held on the USC Helth Sciences Campus, and a campus eco tour hosted by the Earth Week program board on the University Park campus.

Members of the Trojan family also participated in off-campus events for Earth Day as well.

USC Institue for Global Health director Jonathan Samet was a guest panelist in the panel titled: "Aging People/Aging Planet: Challenges and Opportunities in Arts and Health Care.”

The Earth Day forum was held at Los Angeles City Hall.  The forum came out of a collaborative effort between the St. Petersburg Sister City Committee and the USC Institute for Genetic Medicine Art Gallery's Sixth Annual Global Environmental Earth Forum.

These events are just a start to an entire week of earthy celebrations. The USC Sustainability and Program Board have joined together to plan a series of events for Earth Week.

The observations will continue with a fun Earth Day performance at USC's Ground Zero Performance Cafe Tuesday night. The show will exhibit several talents and genres, and the first 100 people to arrive will receive a free milkshake.

If talking isn't quite your style, there will be recycled fashion showcase in front of Tommy Trojan on Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.

The Environment Fair will be brought to Trousdale for the University Park students on Thursday, along with "Art in the Park" and "Yoga in the Park," both of which will be held in Alumni Park.

Trojans can also explore the spirituality of sustainability at an interfaith gathering celebrating the environment on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

The celebrations began Friday, April 19th, and will continue all the way through May 2.
