May Day Rallies Scheduled in Downtown L.A.
Several rallies will take place in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday to commemorate May Day.
The first rally will begin at noon at Olympic and Broadway. The march will proceed north on Broadway, then south on Main Street to Olvera Street. There will be a stage set up for speakers to address the crowd.
A second rally is set for 2:30 p.m., again beginning at Olympic and Broadway. At about 3:30, the group will head north on Broadway, ending with a rally and speakers aboard a flat-bed truck at Broadway and Third Street.
At 4:00 p.m. Southern California Immigration Coalition will lead a May Day rally calling for full immigration reform. The group is also marching to oppose a Guest Worker Program (also known as the Bracero Program), the DREAM ACT, or any other programs that promote what the coalition calls a second class citizenship status, according to their Facebook event page.
Hip-hop artist Olmeca and the Shining Sons would set to perform during the march. The rally will feature speakers including Mexican Rev. Alejandro Solalinde and representatives from the SCIC, Union del Barrio, and International Action Center.
