Environmental Learning Center Opens in Playa Del Ray
Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilman Mike Bonin officially opened the Los Angeles Environmental Learning Center in Playa Del Ray.
At 20,000 square feet, the new Learning Center was created by the City of Los Angeles to educate both the children and adults of Los Angeles about protecting the earth's resources through a series of interactive activities relating to water and waste.
Operated by the City of LA Bureau of Sanitation, the Los Angeles Environmental Learning Center aims to bring textbook and classroom learning to life.
The newly renovated Hyperion Treatment Plant now features a gallery of exhibits that focus on water sanitation, a green roof, a terraced wetland with recycled water and mosquito fish and many state-of-the-art interactive activities.
Councilman Mike Bonin endorsed the Learning Center with great enthusaism. "This is an investment. This is an investment to all of you in the first couple rows" he said at the opening, "whether it's environment or it's education, it's about the future and that's about you."
Although admission is free, reservations are required for tours of the new facility.
