"We know that it may not be popular in some corners, but it is necessary," said Councilmember Gil Cedillo. "It is essential and the most pragmatic solution to our situation today."

"The persecutions continue, the deportations continue, the cruelty of immigration laws continue and we will march and disrupt their business," said Angelica Salas, the Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. "We are not going to derail our futures."

There are currently 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.

"I think it is unlikely that the senate bill as drafted is going to become law, but I see all sorts of problems both on the enforcement side and on the immigration side," explained Professor Niels Frezen, the Director of the Immigration Clinic.

Community acitivists and thousands of others are expected to protest along Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue for their "March of the Stars" on October 5th.
