Pope Francis: Church 'Obsessed' with Homosexuality, Abortion

Students welcome the shift in agenda from the Jesuit-trained pope.

Students reacted positively to Pope Francis' comments urging Catholics to focus less on hot-button issues like homosexuality and abortion.

The pope said that the Church should not interfere spiritually in the lives of gay and lesbian Christians.

The Jesuit-trained pope cautioned that emphasis on minor issues risks destroying the institution's moral credibility.

To students like Liz Soriano, the pope's words are a welcome shift to the Church's moral agenda.

The pope's comments come months after he told interviewers that he was not in a position to cast judgment on homosexuals.
