Heart Walk Promotes Healthy Living in L.A.
Angelenos participated in the American Heart Association's annual Heart Walk in Downtown Los Angeles Wednesday to raise money for heart research and promote healthy lifestyle changes.
Throughout the afternoon, hundreds of walkers filled the one-mile downtown stretch from the Music Center to City Hall in Grand Park.
Free CPR demonstrations and blood pressure screenings along the course gave participants a chance to learn about their own heart health. Walkers were able to pay tribute to loved ones at the event's Wall of Hope.
Money raised from the Heart Walk will fund initiatives that promote the prevention, treatment and improved patient care in the areas of cardiovascular disease.
In October and November a total of seven Heart Walks will take place across Greater L.A. County. Antelope Valley, Pomona and Pasadena are three cities that have already participated in the event.
The next Heart Walk is scheduled to take place in Santa Clarita on October 26. On November 2 another walk will be hosted in Santa Monica, followed by the final event in Long Beach on November 10.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading killer in the United States, and the American Heart Association is the nation's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles free of heart disease and stroke.
