LAX Employee Arrested After Dry Ice Explosions
Update Oct. 17 11:18 a.m.: Bennett will be charged with two counts of possessing a destructive device in a public space. He faces up to six years in prison.
A Los Angeles International Airport employee is in custody today on suspicion of setting off dry ice explosions that prompted emergency responses at the airport for two consecutive nights.
28-year-old Dicarlo Bennett from Paramount was arrested last night and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Police say Bennett allegedly took the dry ice from a plane and placed it in an employee restroom Sunday night and another device on a tarmac Monday night.
No one was injured in either explosion.
According to Bennett's Facebook page, he served as a ramp supervisor for Servisair, a British company that provides a variety of ground services at worldwide airports.
LAPD Special Operations Bureau Commander Blake Chow answered questions Tuesday about the incidents.
Police say there's no apparent connection to possible terrorism threats.
LAX police increased security in employee-only areas where the bombs were planted, according to officials.
Passengers at LAX said these threats were frightening, but they don't intend on changing their travel plans.
