How Safe is USC During a Shooting?

DPS trains staff to handle active shooter situations - but students say they too want to be prepared for the worst.

Although USC's Division of Public Safety conducts active shooter drills - where fire and police responders train to deal with a shooting on or near campus - students say they don't know what to do in such an emergency.

"We haven't done any school shooting drills, only fire drills here. I wouldn't know a formal way of what to do, I would just go with my instinct," Gabrille Gerbus said.

Off-campus apartments have installed a slew of safety features - from fingerprint monitoring to video cameras - to ensure student safety.

But students say more needs to be done to ready students for a shooting.

According to DPS, the next active shooter training will take place on campus during the winter break.
