LAPD Renews Efforts for Pedestrian Safety

Police say the rate of accidents involving pedestrians is accelerating, prompting the heightened intervention.

After four fatal accidents involving pedestrians, the Los Angeles Police Department has renewed efforts to enforce pedestrian safety.

Undercover officers in pedestrian areas - along with the ticketing of those crossing the street illegally - are all part of a campaign to promote safer streets.

Police say the rate of accidents involving pedestrians is accelerating, prompting the heightened intervention.

But some students say ticketing pedestrians signifies an extreme measure, more of a costly nuisance than a meaningful safety strategy.
