LAUSD Accused of Racial Bias in Ticketing Policy

Black and Latino students receive 94 percent of tickets issued by school police, according to an advocacy organization.

The Community Rights Campaign, an advocacy organization that challenges the prison and police system, is accusing Los Angeles Unified School District's school police of racial profiling in arrests and ticketing policies.

According to the organization, black and Latino students receive 94 percent of tickets at district schools.

"Latinos are twice as likely to be ticketed or arrested compared to a white student, and for blacks, four to five times," said Manuel Criollo, a community rights organizer. "We've been trying to move L.A. Unified School District to adopt new protocols to basically limit the role of police around school discipline," Criollo said.

But a statement from LAUSD, the nation's second largest school district, strongly disagreed with the Community Rights Campaign's charges.

"Each year, we continue to reduce crime, reduce arrests, reduce suspensions and increase positive relationships with students. For that, we deserve an A, not an F," said the district's statement.

Maybe white people just behave...ever think of that??? Sure..go ahead and call it racism. That's a pretty weak card...but play it if that's all ya got! (what percent of LAUSD's students are white anyway??)
