"Swatters" to be Fined for Fake 911 Calls Under New Law

A new law will leave "swatters" financially responsible for their false 911 calls.

The LA City Council unanimously voted Wednesday to implement a law that would fine SWAT callers who prank call the LAPD.

Under the new law, swatters who mislead the police will be responsible for financially reimbursing them for their efforts.

The act is referred to as "swatting" because SWAT teams are often called to celebrity homes under false pretenses.

In August, a similar bill was passed that will impose a fine of $10,000 on anyone who places false 911 calls.

The new "swatting" bill will also reward anyone who provides information leading the arrest of the offendors.
