Small Businesses Welcome Prop 65 Reform
Eagle Rock business owner Brett Schoenhals said the policies mandated by Proposition 65 were too burdensome.
If he didn't post an exhaustive list of all toxic chemicals in his restaurant, The Coffee Table, he faced fines of $2,500 per day.
Schoenhals said the fines were levied for the eight years he didn't post the requisite sign.
"Do the math," Schoenhals said.
A new law - A.B. 227 - now adds a 14-day window for business owners to comply with Prop 65.
The law was sponsored by Assemblymember Mike Gatto, who represents the district where Schoenhals operates his restaurant.
"Before A.B. 227 passed, there was really nothing you could do other than pay them off and many people have paid them off to make them go away," Gatto said.
