Student Found Dead Identified as Marshall Sophomore
The coroner's office is investigating the death of Thu Yain "Roy" Kyaw, a second-year Marshall student, found less than a mile from University Park Campus.
USC's Department of Public Safety found a body of a student in his room at 1314 29th Street Sunday night after receiving an emergency call.
The DPS report said there was no criminal cause of death.
In a statement addressed to the USC Marshall Community emailed to ATVN, Marshall Dean James G. Ellis said:
"It is with enormous sadness that I write to inform you of the sudden passing of a member of our Marshall Community and the Trojan Family, Thu Yain "Roy" Kyaw.
Roy was a sophomore from Singapore, an outstanding Marshall student who made a positive impact among his friends, fellow students, and faculty. He was an active participant in last spring's LINC program, where he was a member of the Budapest trip. This loss has hit our community particularly hard, as Roy's older brother is a senior at Marshall.
We are working closely with the Marshall Undergraduate Program Office, the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Religious Life to reach all those affected. We encourage anyone in need of support to contact Associate Dean Kim West's office, your advisor in the Undergraduate Advising Office, or the counselors in Student Counseling Services or the Center for Work and Family Life.
We hope to know more soon regarding the Kyaw family's wishes for arrangements to celebrate Roy's life. Please join me in keeping the entire Kyaw family in our thoughts and prayers."
