Minorities Still Under-Represented in Film

A new study released Wednesday by the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism revealed minorities are still greatly under-represented in high-grossing films.
Research showed, in 2012 76.3 percent of characters with speaking roles in films were white.
While Latinos make up 26 percent of movie ticket buyers, only 4.2 percent of speaking roles in films are given to them.
The study showed 10.8 percent of characters with dialogue were black, five percent were Asian and 3.6 percent were from other ethnicities.
Statistics show that minorities are under-represented in directorial positions in addition to on-screen roles.
