County Officials Announce Anti-Smoking Campaign for the LGBT Population
An anti-smoking campaign aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community was announced by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Thursday.
The "Break Up With Tobacco" campaign used street teams around gyms and bars in West Hollywood to encourage the county's LGBT community to stop smoking.
According to the Public Health Department's 2011 Los Angeles County Health Survey, LGBT community members smoke at more than twice the rate of heterosexual smokers.
"Break Up" kits including underwear and condoms were also distributed around popular nightlife venues.
The campaign's romance theme relates reasons to stop smoking with reasons to end romantic relationships. This theme includes "My Friends and Family Don't Approve" and "I don't see a future with you."
