FDA Moves to Ban Trans Fat
The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that they will begin moving to ban trans fat from food products.
This is the first time the administration has taken a stance against trans fat.
The FDA believes reducing the amount of trans fats American consume could prevent 20,000 heart attacks and 7,000 deaths a year.
The administration began requiring nutritional labels to show trans fat content in 2006, which caused many companies to alter their recipes.
Any ban on trans fats would likely be a gradual process being completed in a few years.
