AIDS Healthcare Foundation Unveils "Stop LA Corruption" Campaign
Darren Edwards was a porn star, but he's now HIV Positive.
"When I got the news I was thinking, I couldn't believe my life is over," said Edwards.
He got the disease back in 2004, during an outbreak among porn stars. Now he's an HIV Counselor and hopes to spread awareness about the disease.
"Coming out of the industry was really harsh because I was just exposed in the worst way and then faced with society where I was just shunned," said Edwards.
The County Health Department along with community centers offer free testing and help educate people about AIDS.
"For people living with HIV, they fund a network of agencies that provide the medical care, the case management, and any other services that someone with HIV might need," explained Ricky Rosales, an AIDS Coordinator for the City of Los Angeles.
The County Health Department now serves more than ten-million people in Los Angeles, a number which the AIDS Health Foundation said is far too large for quality health care.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation unveiled its "Stop LA Corruption" campaign Monday and demanded the government take responsibility.
"The LA County Government is the most unaccountable government in this country," said Michael Weinstein, President of the AIDS Health Foundation. "There is no other example of such a small body governing such a large number of people."
Rosales disagreed. He said the people who need the service have access to them. "There are adequate resources available in the county so anyone who needs resources can have it."
The only way to stop corruption is to get rid of ALL public employees
